Living Coffin.

Are you waste or compost? Loop is a biotechnology company exploring the potential to turn humans into compost. We do this by bringing human nutrients back into the cycle-of-life in the most natural way with a living mycelium-based coffin that enables people to enrich the soil and allow new seedlings to thrive. From graveyard to forest.

Contrary to nature's beautiful end-of-life cycle, people not only parasitize during life, but even after death they leave their scar on this beautiful planet. How do we go back to nature? When we die. We cut down a tree, work it intensively and try to shut ourselves off as well as possible from micro-organisms. Or we donate our nutrient-rich body to the waste bin through cremation. As if we see ourselves as waste instead of compost. Our relationship with nature is broken. It seems as if we have forgotten that we are dependent and part of nature. We have drifted so far that now we are polluting even when we die. Our bodies contain 219 chemicals that endanger the ecosystem and lead to groundwater pollution. We want to change this.

What if we can turn these polluted places into flourishing forests? We are here to restore nature. We do this by bringing human nutrients back into the cycle- of-life in the most natural way with a living mycelium-based coffin that enables people to enrich the soil and allow new seedlings to thrive. From graveyard to forest. The living mycelium-based coffin not only breaks itself and the body down in a matter of months, but also hosts bacteria that neutralizes toxins in both the body and soil and transfers human nutrients to a self-selected plant or tree. This ensures that humans are composted into the most passive way possible in a matter of months and the soil quality of the environment is enriched and the biodiversity increase, hereby allowing new seedlings to thrive.

The living mycelium-based coffin breaks itself and the body down in 3-6 months and hosts bacteria that neutralizes toxins in both body and soil and transfers human nutrients to a self-selected plant or tree. This ensures that humans are composted into the most passive way possible in a matter of months and the quality of the environment is enriched, hereby allowing new seedlings to thrive.

Loop is part of incubator YES!Delft and together with partners TU Delft, Eer & Volharding, Naturalis Biodiversity Center, we are passionate about restoring nature and moving to a new relationship with our environment. Our lab is set up and our team contains scientists, designers, and entrepreneurs.
